WrestleMania 31 begins with Lillian Garcia introducing Aloe Balcc to sing ‘America the Beautiful’.

He gets a decent reaction from the crowd, and a ton of pyro goes off before we head right into a video package featuring LL Cool J. He talks about being connected from the dawn of radio, to television, to the internet and beyond. He references Facebook and Twitter and says media has evolved, but the one similarity it ‘us’, the human connection. The feeling when you’re surrounded by strangers but feel like you know them all. When you have something in common. LL talks overcoming the odds, and boyhood dreams, and passing torches while vintage Mania footage plays in the background. LL says all these things connect us. These men, these women, these athletes, will take the biggest stage in entertainment. They’ll connect us. Tonight, the world will be watching, this is WrestleMania.

We get an overhead shot of the crowd, and it’s pretty amazing. Ladders are set up everywhere, as we found out the Intercontinental Championship match would be happening in the pre-show. Daniel Bryan is the first man to make his way out to the ring, and he receives a massive pop.

Wade Barrett is out to the ring next, and he sounds like he gets a pretty good reaction, but it’s kind of difficult to tell with the open nature of the stadium.

Dolph Ziggler is out next, getting a great pop out of the crowd, and he’s not even all the way down the ramp before Stardust follows in a crazy collared jacket.

Luke Harper is out next, and it doesn’t sound like there’s much of a reaction out of the crowd, but R-Truth does get a nice little ‘what’s up’ chant on his way to the ring.

Dean Ambrose is out, ripping off his jacket on the way to the ring, and going right for the fight!

WWE Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match
Wade Barrett vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose vs. R-Truth vs. Luke Harper

People pair off, and Ambrose dives through the ropes to take out Harper on the floor. Barrett knocks Ambrose down with a ladder, and both men are floored by R-Truth leaping over the top. Stardust wipes out everyone next, and Luke Harper tosses Dolph Ziggler on top of everyone, before diving on the whole crowd himself. Ambrose climbs a huge ladder on the outside of the ring, and drops an elbow on top of the brawling opponents.

Truth, who escaped Ambrose’s dive, brings a leadder into the ring and slowly climbs to the first rung before being taken out by Barrett. Barrett takes the ladder and drives it into Truth’s ribs before using it to knock Ambrose from the apron. Bryan is in with a top rope dropkick to the ladder to take out Barrett. Bryan sets Barrett and the ladder up in the corner before whipping Stardust into the ladder and hitting repeated dropkicks. Harper ends up tossing the ladder into Bryan’s face on the third attempt. Harper begins to climb up a ladder, but Bryan stops him and traps his leg in the rungs, hitting repeated kicks to Harper’s chest while he’s in a tree of woe. Bryan climbs, but he’s pulled down and superkicked by Ziggler out of the ring.

Ambrose and Ziggler both try to climb and are pulled down by Barrett. Barrett is thrown from the ring by both men. Ambrose Ziggler and Truth all try to climb, but Stardust knocks over the ladder and takes out everyone before tossing the ladder over the top rope, and down to the floor at Harper. Stardust goes under the ring for a bejeweled ladder, but Wade Barrett immediately kicks it apart and uses on of the wooden pieces to beat some of his opponents. Ambrose comes in and sends Barrett crashing into the wooden ladder, causing it to fall on top of Barrett. Ambrose grabs another ladder, and slams it down on top of Barrett. Ambrose and Harper square off with ladders in the ring, and Harper ends up tossing Ambrose from the ring before hitting a slingshot on Ziggler between the first and second ropes, with the ladder on top of Ziggler. Harper sets up a ladder laying on the top rope in the corner and tosses Ambrose into it face first. Harper puts the ladder around his neck and spins around, wiping out some of his opponents, before Truth takes out his legs, and smashes Harper’s face into the ladder.

Truth slowly sets up a large ladder in the middle of the ring, but he’s tossed aside by Barrett. Barrett and Stardust both climb the ladder, and Barrett superplexes Stardust from the top of the ladder. Bryan and Ziggler climb the ladder, with Ambrose not fat behind. Ambrose is knocked from the ladder and instead of a rebound lariat, he rebounds to push the ladder over. Ambrose sets up the ladder in the middle of the ring, and Harper pulls Ambrose off, only to eat a rebound lariat. Ambrose begins the climb again, but Harper pulls him down with a powerbomb through a ladder propped between the apron and barricade to the outside.

Harper begins to climb the ladder, and Ziggler clamps on a sleeper hold. Harper continues to climb, and touches the title, but fades, and Ziggler hits a Zig Zag from the top. Ziggler climbs the ladder, but Barrett pulls him down and hits a bull hammer. Stardust leaps into the ring, into a bull hammer, and Truth eats a bull hammer at the top of the ladder. Bryan climbs and knocks Barrett off, and Bryan’s knocked off in turn. Bryan hits Barrett with the flying knee and he sets up the ladder in the middle of the ring. Bryan climbs and puts his hands on the ladder and Ziggler scrambles up the ladder. Both men fight at the top, trading repeated right hands. Bryan hits a head butt, Ziggler hits a head butt. The two continue to trade head butts, and Ziggler falls to the mat. Bryan grabs the title and pulls it down, winning the match.

We get a quick commercial featuring some of the WWE Tapout stuff ‘Coming 2016′.

Cole, JBL, and Lawler talk about the Intercontinental Championship while a production member accidentally walks in a shot. Winner: Randy Orton

Ronda Rousey is shown in the crowd, taking in the show. The announcers turn their attention to the next match, which will see the Icon Sting taking on Triple H. We get a nice video package showing some of the history of both men in their respective promotions. Of course this video package also covers some of the recent history between these two that led directly to this match.

There are what appear to be Japanese drummer on the stage, maybe a dozen or so, playing various large drums and gongs, all in Sting facepaint. It’s pretty impressive, though one of the guys is making pretty goofy faces. They get a nice round of applause from the crowd before The Icon himself makes his way out for his WWE Wrestling debut at the grandest stage of them all! Of course Sting gets a huge pop.

Triple H is out next, of course with the very odd Terminator entrance. The first part of the entrance is basically just a snippet of the trailer, and then terminators rise from the stage and scan the crowd before determining Sting their target. Hunter is the next to rise from the stage, wearing a sort of goofy cybernetic skeleton get-up, Hunter and the terminators continue to rise from the stage on pillars and Arnold Schwarzenegger is shown, saying ‘WrestleMania’, it’s time to play the game, with glowing read eyes.

Hunter is handed a couple of bunches of cybernetic skulls and poses at the top of the ramp before heading down toward the ring.

Cole and JBL try to talk about the psychological element of the entrance, but it seemed strange, and much less natural than some of Hunter’s viking style entrances of the past.

Singles Match
Sting vs. Triple H

The bell rings, and both men stare each other down. The crowd chants that this is awesome before they even touch. We get the first lock up and Sting clamps on a headlock. Hunter goes for a headlock of his own, taking Sting over to the mat. Sting fights up to his feet and pushes Hunter off only to fall to a shoulderblock. Hunter does a crotch chop, and Sting comes up with a flurry of offense including a dropkick! The crowd chants that Sting’s still got it.

Hunter hits a knee to Sting’s face, but Sting pops right back up and pounds his chest. Sting grabs Hunter’s legs, but Hunter scrambles to get to the outside to avoid the deathlock.

Sting is able to fight up to his feet and out of the hold, but he runs right into a spine buster from Hunter that’s good for another two count.

Hunter goes right into another rear chin lock, and Sting fights to his feet a little slower this time. Sting comes back with a series of strikes, and he whips Hunter into the corner, Sting runs into a big boot, but when Hunter leaps from the middle rope, Sting grabs his legs and locks him in the Scorpion Death lock. DX music hits and Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, and X-pac all run down to the ring, where they’re taken out by Sting. Hunter tries for the pedigree, but Sting backdrops Hunter to the outside. Sting heads to the top rope and leaps out to the floor, taking out all of DX.

Sting continues to fend off Billy Gunn, and he turns around into a pedigree from Hunter. Hunter goes for the pin, but Sting kicks out at two.

Hunter goes to the outside and he looks under the ring, grabbing a sledge hammer. The NWO’s music hits, and Nash, Hall and Hogan make their way out into the stadium!

DX and Hunter look absolutely confused, not sure what to do. DX charges, and they’re taken out by the NWO, who stare down Hunter. Hogan does a crotch chop at Triple H, and Sting comes in from behind to hit the scorpion death drop. Sting goes for the pin and gets two.

Sting is able to lock on the scorpion death lock. Hunter crawls toward the sledge hammer, but Hogan pulls it from the ring. X-Pac takes out Hogan, Nash takes out Pac, Gunn takes out Nash, and Road Dogg backdrops Hall on the floor. Sting continues to hold Hunter in the deathlock, but Hunter is finally able to make it into the ropes.

Hunter walks toward the NWO, and reaches his hand out to Sting. Sting shakes Hunter’s hand, and it looks like Hunter says ‘one day’ to Sting. Hunter makes his way to the back with DX while Sting stands in the ring to soak in a little more WrestleMania.

There are a couple of new WWE Network series announced, one an animated series from Seth Green, one is something with Johnny Knoxville, one is ‘Too Hot’ with Jerry Springer, and
finally, it looks like there’ll be another WWE Diva’s search.

Maria Menounous is backstage with Daniel Bryan. Bryan says having the title is incredible. Pat Patterson comes in and tells Bryan he’s a hard worker. Bryan thanks Pat. Roddy Piper comes in and says every time he thinks he’s got all the answers, Bryan changes the questions. Roddy kisses Bryan on the forehead. Ricky Steamboat comes in and congratulates Bryan, saying the match ranked up their with his match with Randy Savage. Ric Flair comes in and says he knew Daniel had it in him. Flair woo’s a couple of times, and Bret Hart walks in, saying he can’t think of a better representative of the Intercontinental championship. The legends all join in a ‘Yes’ chant, before Ron Simmons comes in and interrupts with a ‘Damn’. The legends and Bryan continue the ‘yes’ chant.

Skylar Grey, Travis Barker, and Kid Ink are in the arena to perform the theme song for WrestleMania that’s been in every Mania promo lately. Really the music seems to be more Sklar Grey, and then a Kid Ink song featuring Skylar Grey. It’s ok, and the crowd doesn’t seem to hate it.

Cole throws it over to a live feed from an army base in Tacoma, Washington where some of the troops are watching the show. When they come back into the arena, Paige makes her way out, not getting much of a reaction.

AJ Lee is out, and she gets a nice initial pop, but it’ll be tough to get the crowd excited after an NWO/DX showdown.

The Bella’s are out next, and it’s hard to tell what the reaction is, but they’re at least drawing some noise from the crowd.

Divas Tag Team Match
AJ Lee and Paige vs. The Bella’s

The bell rings and Nikki and Paige look to kick things off. They fight on the mat immediately before Nikki tosses Paige off and sends AJ crashing off the apron. Brie tags in and heads to the top rope, coming in with a missile dropkick that’s good for a two count. Brie clamps on a front face lock, transitioning behind Paige and transitioning into a modified rear chin lock with Paige stretched across Brie’s knees. AJ is shown still out on the floor, and when she climbs to the apron she’s knocked back out to the floor with a knee to the face from Brie. Nikki tags into the match and we get a double slingshot suplex, using the top rope for momentum. Nikki ducks a clothesline from Paige and dropkicks AJ from the apron to the floor. Paige rolls up Nikki for a near fall, but Nikki hits a spinebuster, and follows up with the rack attack, but Paige is able to kick out at two.

Nikki sends Paige into the corner and runs right into a big boot while Brie catches an elbow that sends her to the floor. Paige sends Nikki to the outside and leaps from the apron in a cannonball, wiping out both Nikki and Brie. AJ gets to the apron and makes the tag, coming in and hitting a Thesz press and a series of rights to Nikki. Nikki sends AJ into the corner, and AJ retaliates with a tornado DDT like move, putting Nikki’s throat down over the top rope.

Nikki catches AJ in body slam position, but Paige dropkicks AJ to send Nikki to her back. Nikki gets AJ into electric chair position, but AJ is able to reverse things into a great DDT that’s good for two. AJ locks in the black widow, but Brie breaks it up. Paige comes in, and is sent out, and Nikki smashes AJ with a forearm for two. Paige wrecks Brie by whipping her into the steps on the outside, and AJ makes Nikki tap with the black widow in the ring.

Winners: AJ and Paige

AJ and Paige celebrate, and AJ laughs at the Bella’s, while they look on sadly on the ramp.

Cole talks about how apparently they put all these stats into a computer for a tale of the tape between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. It includes a couple of things like height and weight, and a couple of career highlights for each.

The announcers then turn their attention to the Hall of Fame ceremony, and we get a rundown of the inductees, and a couple of highlight lines from some of the speeches.

Back in the stadium, the Hall of Fame class of 2015 is introduced; Rikishi, Larry Zbysko, Alundra Blayze, Steve Michalek on behalf of Connor The Crusher, The Bushwhackers, Tatsumi Fukinami, Lanny Poffo on behalf of Randy Savage and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Finally, the music changes, and Kevin Nash makes his way out to the NWO music. The crowd gives everyone a round of applause.

Cole, JBL and Lawler turn their attention to John Cena vs. Rusev, since that’ll be coming up next. We get a video package that shows some of the recent history between these two men, since Fastlane.

Rusev is the first man to make his way out to the ring, and there’s small crew of guys dressed as Russian soldiers walking with a Russian flag behind Lana, who’s carrying the US title to the ring. There are some cannons at the top of the ramp, which fire, and then a tank drives in, with Rusev on it! He gets out and waves a Russian flag before heading down to the ring.

Once Rusev is in the ring, he stalls for a bit so I guess the crew can remove the cannons. We get a video package about America, featuring shots of famous landmarks, speeches from Barak Obama and Ronal Reagan, George Bush. After the video, John Cena makes his way out without any kind of special entrance at all. Cena gets a mixed reaction on his way to the ring.

During ring introductions, Rusev demands he be introduced before Cena.

US Championship Match
Rusev vs. John Cena

The bell rings, and Cena blasts Rusev with a quick clothesline that’s good for a quick pin. Rusev connects with a spinning heel kick, and he stomps away at Cena repeatedly. Rusev catches Cena witha big head butt before connecting with a giant wrenching suplex that’s good for a two count.

Cena hits a couple of shoulder tackles, and a belly to back suplex. Cena tells Rusev that he can’t see Cena, and he follows up with the five knuckle shuffle. Cena tries for the AA, but Rusev fights out of it and suplexes Cena across the ring, getting a two count.

Rusev misses with a bicycle kick, and Cena tries for the STF, but can’t lock it in. Rusev takes Cena to the mat for yet another near fall, and Rusev appears to be getting frustrated. Rusev heads to the top rope with Cena, and he tries for a superplex, but Cena fights him off, sending him to the mat. Cena hits a fameasser from the top rope, driving Rusev face first into the mat, but it’s still not enough to kepp Rusev down for three. Cena tries for the AA again, but Rusev fights out and superkicks Cena in the face.

Rusev tries for the accolade, but Cena fights out of it, only to eat another kick from Rusev. Rusev tries for a splash, but runs right into a big boot, and a leaping tornado DDT from Cena that’s good for another two count. Both men struggle to their feet where they trade punches and kicks. Rusev gets the upper hand, leaping and kneeing Cena in the side of the head before hitting an Alabama slam. Rusev goes to stomp Cena, but Cena stops him and transitions into the STF.

Winner and NEW WWE US Champion: John Cena

Rusev is shown going off on Lana while Lana’s helped to the back by a trainer and ref. Cena celebrates with his title, heading around the ring and shaking some hands before heading off to the back.

The announcers throw it to the pre-show panel, including Bryon Saxton, Cory Graves, Booker T and Renee Young. Renee talks about the US title match, Graves says he didn’t expect Cena to do it, but doesn’t mind being wrong. They also take a quick look at the Tag Team Championship match from earlier tonight that saw Cesaro and Tyson Kidd retain their titles. Byron says that WrestleMania is an opportunity to make a statement, and all four teams are ready for a bright future. We also take a quick look at the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which saw Mizdow turn on Miz, and Big Show win the whole thing.

Lillian Garcia welcomes Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Stephanie says they’ve set a new Levi’s Statium attendance record of almost 77,000. Steph talks about being at WrestleMania 1, in front of a capacity crowd of 20,000 people. Tonight, WrestleMania’s also available the world over on the WWE Network. Stephanie talks about all 50 states, and 40 different countries being represented, and how it couldn’t be done without her and Hunter, because without them WWE wouldn’t be where it is today. Hunter says he guesses the truth hurts, because not only did he beat Sting tonight, Hunter says he beat anyone that ever bet against them. He feels so good, it’s as if he beat 70,000 of them, and millions more watching on the Network. Because the fact is, he owned Sting, just like they own every Diva and Superstar back there, and all the fans. Because just like Hunter said before, the Authority always wins. Hunter and Steph kiss, but they’re interrupted by the Rock’s music, and the People’s Champ comes out to a giant pop.

Rock blows off Hunter and Steph, walking right past them to pose in the corner before grabbing a mic. Rock milks the crowd reaction for a bit and Steph says we get it, you’re happy to see him before asking the crowd to be quiet. Rock elicits even more cheers just by being silent. Rock says they don’t own the fans. And they damn sure don’t own the Rock. What they fail to realize is that the Rock is an East Bay boy. The Rock was born in the East Bay. Rock says they’ve got two choices. He can dress up like terminator again, or they can create a WrestleMania moment right here, right now. One of the biggest rivalries again, and Rock runs down some of his accolades in rhyming form. Hunter goes nose to nose with Rock, saying they had a hell of a rivalry, and Hunter remembers kicking his ass for most of it, so he’s got nothing to prove to Rock. Rock says just like he left his heart in San Francisco, Hunter left his balls in Stamford, Connecticut. Hunter takes off his jacket, but Steph is quick to break things up, saying Rock’s got to feed his ego, because he knows without the McMahon’s there’d be no Rock.

Steph says Peter Miavia, Rocky Johnson, Duane Johnson, would be nobody without Vince McMahon, Vince McMahon Jr., and Stephanie McMahon. Rock says what’s ironic is she’s running her mouth about the Johnson’s and the McMahon’s, and she wouldn’t be in power without Mr. McMahon’s Johnson. Stephanie slaps Rock, and asks what Rock is going to do about it. This is her ring, her stadium, her people. Stephanie tells Rock to get out.

Rock heads out to the apron, and walks a couple of steps from the ring before turning around and walking over to Ronda Rousey. Rock looks into the ring, and back to Ronda. Rock invites Rousey over the barricade and she hops right over. Ronda makes her way into the ring with the Rock, and they stand across the ring from Stephanie and Hunter.

Rock says he would never hit a woman, but he’s got a very good fried who would be happy to. Stephanie says it’s a nice surprise, but Stephanie and Ronda are friends. She was ringside for Stephanie’s match at SummerSlam. She asks Ronda to tell him. She tells Ronda to not believe she’s going to have some sort of WrestleMania moment, because it’s not realistic. Stephanie calls Ronda the queen of the octagon, and in the world of MMA, she’s never mess with Ronda, that’d be foolish. But this is the squared circle, and it’s her ring. So unless she’s going to sit over there and enjoy Mania like a nice little fan, she should get the hell out of the ring. Ronda grabs the mic and says any ring she steps into is hers. If Steph wants her to leave, she should make her. Stephanie says that she told her to get the hell out of her ring, now. Rock interrupts to explain the look on Ronda’s face, saying if Steph keeps running her mouth, Ronda will rip out Steph’s insides and do jump rope with Steph’s fallopian tubes.

Hunter says he’s had it, and that’s the last thing he says about Hunter’s wife. Rock agrees and says he’s right, it’s the last thing he says. Rock peppers Hunter with rights, and Ronda judo flips Hunter, sending him to the outside. Stephanie confronts Ronda, and has a slap blocked, and her are twisted just a bit before being tossed from the ring. Rock asks if the crowd if they smell what the Rock and Ronda is cooking.

The announcers are quick to throw it to the ring for the next match, Bray Wyatt makes his way down to the ring with several men dressed as scarecrows, Bray even ‘brings one of the scarecrows to life’ touching his forehead on the way by.

The gong sounds, the lights go out, and the Undertaker makes his way into the stadium to a huge pop.

Taker heads to the ropes, and goes for Old School, leaping off the top rope and wiping out Bray. Undertaker hits the ropes, and runs right into a big clothesline from Wyatt. Wyatt clotheslines Taker over the top rope, but Taker lands on his feet. Taker drags Wyatt to the outside and drives Wyatt back first into the ring apron. Taker sets Wyatt up on the ring apron and kicks the side of his head before standing on the apron and dropping the leg across Wyatt’s throat on the apron.

Taker sends Wyatt back into the ring and hits a big clothesline in the corner, then snake eyes. Wyatt bounces off the ropes and connects with a flying forearm out of nowhere to surprise Taker. Wyatt waits for Taker to stand, then stomps away at him in the corner before hitting him with a couple of big right hands.
