JBL then declares, “because that’s what you do” and Mark Henry responds, “that’s what I do”, but after JBL excitedly repeats himself, Mark Henry asks if JBL is “making fun” of him. JBL immediately backtracks, saying that they are both Texas boys and saying that he would not make fun of “The World’s Strongest Man”, saying that is Mark Henry’s “biggest fan”. JBL continues, saying that he would love to see Mark Henry in action on Main Event and Henry agrees. JBL says that Mark Henry does not turn down any challenge, saying that beating people in singles match has been done time and time again and Mark Henry agrees again, saying that he will take on two WWE Superstars. JBL admits that it would be great to see that, but mentions that the fans have been seeing quite a few Handicap Matches as of late, saying that Big Show has been “awesome” in his 2-on-1 Handicap Matches. Mark Henry then asks if JBL is saying that Big Show is “more powerful” than him before volunteering himself to take on three WWE Superstars. JBL says that Mark Henry is “The World’s Strongest Man”, suggesting that, if Mark Henry were to face four Superstars in a Gauntlet Match, he might finally get the respect he deserves. Mark Henry thinks about it for a moment before telling JBL to get out of the ring because he will face any four Superstars in a Gauntlet Match!

After some unintentional coaxing from JBL, the featured attraction of Main Event would see “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry face four Superstars, one after the other, in a Gauntlet Match! Jimmy & Jey Uso then come out as Jimmy Uso would take the unenviable task of going one-on-one with Mark Henry in the first part of the Gauntlet Match. Mark Henry quickly dispatches the tag team specialist, hitting the World’s Strongest Slam on Jimmy Uso, defeating one-half of the Usos. Jey Uso then tries to get the jump on Mark Henry, but to no avail as Henry quickly regains the advantage. Jey was later able to get a short boost of offense against Mark Henry, but Henry proved too much for the second Uso, planting Jey Uso with the World’s Strongest Slam to advance in the Gauntlet Match. Santino Marella was then revealed as Mark Henry’s third adversary in the Gauntlet Match. Mark Henry powers through Santino Marella, squashing Marella with the World’s Strongest Slam, defeating his third Superstar in a row. Mark Henry’s fourth and final opponent in the Gauntlet Match would be quite a bit tougher than his previous three as “The World’s Strongest Man” would have to combat “The Punjabi Giant” The Great Khali. Mark Henry would manage to overcome the size of The Great Khali, planting Khali with the World’s Strongest Slam. However, Khali would manage to get his foot on the bottom rope, avoiding the defeat. Shortly after this, Khali hits two chops to the skull of Mark Henry, resulting in Henry rolling out of the ring and, after collecting himself, Mark Henry opts not to get back in the ring, taking a count-out loss as Khali puts an end to Henry’s reign in the Gauntlet Match!

With the Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Title coming up in a month at Extreme Rules where Dolph Ziggler will defend the World Heavyweight Title against both Jack Swagger and Alberto Del Rio, Swagger’s manager and mouthpiece, Zeb Colter, speaks on the Triple Threat. Colter accuses Del Rio of sneaking his way into the title match before addressing Dolph Ziggler, saying that Ziggler has “peculiar and questionable morals”. Zeb continues, saying that the world deserves a better champion, saying that Jack Swagger will be that champion and, this Friday on SmackDown, he will prove it when he faces Del Rio in a No Disqualification Match. Jack Swagger then comes out, repeatedly shouting “we the people”.

WWE SmackDown Results: April 19, 2013

The 713th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the Thompson-Boling Arena at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. As Sheamus & Randy Orton’s problems with Big Show continue to intensify, another super heavyweight has, quite literally, shoved his way into the picture as Mark Henry has inexplicably attacked Sheamus in the backstage area twice in the past week, first on SmackDown last week and again on Monday’s RAW, and, on SmackDown, “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus and “The Viper” Randy Orton would face the daunting team of “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show and “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry!

Match Results
-------------------

* Fandango def. Santino Marella by pin following the reverse swinging STO.

* Champion vs. Champion: Non-Title:
Kofi Kingston def. Wade Barrett by roll-up.

* Alberto Del Rio def. Jack Swagger by roll-up.

* 6-Person Mixed Tag Match:
The Great Khali, Hornswoggle, & Natalya def. Primo, Epico, & Rosa Mendes by The Great Khali pinning Epico following the Punjabi Plunge.

Detailed Results
---------------------

SmackDown kicks off with the overnight sensation known as Fandango as “The Dancing Enigma” was set for action, but before the match got underway, Fandango approaches SmackDown Ring Announcer Lilian Garcia, asking Lilian if she has ever “Fandangoed” before. Appearing a bit creeped out by Fandango’s flirtatious and up-close approach, Lilian tries to leave the ring, but Fandango spins Lilian back into his arms and their faces nearly touch. Fandango then dips Lilian and says that her dancing was “absolutely terrible”, intentionally dropping Lilian! The confused Lilian then scrambles to her feet as Fandango says that Garcia is a “beautiful woman”, but there is “nothing beautiful” about the way she dances. Lilian then exits the ring as Fandango says that each and every one of the people in the crowd “butcher” his name and his signature dancing. Fandango then turns his attention back to Lilian Garcia, asking Lilian to pronounce his name, but Fandango is then interrupted by the comedic buffoon known as Santino Marella. Santino calls Fandango “Fandingle”, taking issue with how Fandango treats the fans, as well as Lilian Garcia. Santino then does his best mockery of Fandango’s dance and, when Fandango charges after Santino, Marella pulls down the top rope, sending Fandango to the outside.

After their unique introduction moments earlier, the opening match of the night saw “The Dancing Enigma” Fandango going one-on-one with Santino Marella. In the end, it was Fandango hitting a swinging reverse STO en route to picking up the win.

Backstage, Big Show confronts SmackDown General Manager Booker T and his Senior Advisor Theodore Long as the usually angry giant actually thanks Theodore Long for giving him a tag team partner, accusing Booker of risking one of SmackDown’s top stars by putting him in Handicap Matches. Big Show then fist-bumps the Senior Advisor before exiting the office. Not the least bit pleased, Booker glares at a beaming Theodore Long, but Long ignores his employer, leaving to catch up with Big Show.

After being the one to finally unseat Antonio Cesaro to win the United States Title, the new United States Champion Kofi Kingston went one-on-one with Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett in a non-title, Champion vs. Champion Match. In the end, it was a cocky pin by Wade Barrett that would cost him as Kofi Kingston counters the pin attempt into a roll-up, catching the Intercontinental Champion by surprise and picking up the big win.

Backstage, Renee Young is conducting an interview with Mark Henry about his recent unexplained attacks on Sheamus, but “The Celtic Warrior” himself interrupts the interview, tackling Mark Henry and putting him through a table and other debris just like Henry has been doing to Sheamus!

Before they join champion Dolph Ziggler in a Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Title at next month’s Extreme Rules, SmackDown would feature a WrestleMania rematch as “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio, with Ricardo Rodriguez in his corner, went one-on-one with “The Real American” Jack Swagger, with Zeb Colter in his corner. At the end of an intense, back-and-forth match that saw both men fight through their respective injuries, it was Alberto Del Rio finally catching Jack Swagger with a roll-up to pick up the hard-fought victory.

In a unique 6-Person Mixed Tag Match, the team of The Great Khali, Hornswoggle, & Natalya would face Primo, Epico, & Rosa Mendes on SmackDown. In the end, it was The Great Khali planting Epico with the Punjabi Plunge en route to picking up the win for his team.

Then it was time for the main event of SmackDown as “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus & “The Viper” Randy Orton would face the gargantuan team of “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show and “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry. In the end, it was Big Show planting Randy Orton with a chokeslam en route to picking up the win for himself and Mark Henry.

Detailed Results

WWE Main Event returned last night (April 17, 2013) on ION Television from the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, TN. Featuring a Battle Royal of jobbers to compete to be the #1 Contender to the Intercontinental Title and the IC Title Championship match thereafter.

The show opened with a ten man Battle Royal for the right to face Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship,featuring The Great Khali, Primo, Alex Riley, Santino Marella, Jimmy and Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, Jinder Mahal, Yoshi Tatsu and Justin Gabriel. That's quite an assortment of characters! It was a paint by the numbers Battle Royal. There was a lot of time wasted just standing around, wrestlers became oddly weak when their opponents were on the precipice, and we even got the cliched "everyone gang up and push the big guy over" spot. Nothing new or groundbreaking, but the formula does work for a reason. It was an entertaining match for what it was.

Justin Gabriel would eventually earn the victory, sending Drew McIntyre over with the head scissors takedown and dodging Primo's final rush. Which, good for Gabriel! They guy has potential, and it's a damn shame WWE isn't using him correctly. Well, it's a damn shame WWE isn't using any of these jobbers hard workers correctly. How much money was standing in the ring last night? How much time and energy has WWE spent teaching and building up that talent, only for it to waste away? Fans want to care about wrestlers. But it's impossible to when the promotion itself doesn't give a flying duck.

The win earned Gabriel the right to lose to Wade Barrett later in the night with the Intercontinental Championship on the line. Wade was supposed to win, but this bull[explicit] of alternating loses every week is killing him. It's incomprehensible why WWE would book him the way it does.

With all the shaming aside, the match was actually wicked entertaining. Wade is Wade, and his limited move set is not always the most fun thing to watch. But he does work well with the right opponent, and he plays the heel role well in the ring. On the other side, it was clear Gabriel is very, very green. He seemed to be a step behind Wade the entire match, late getting to his spots and not moving comfortably around the ring. It was a little discerning to watch, but once you got past it was easy to see the guy's potential. The point of Main Event should be to get lower talent like Gabriel experience before making it to SmackDown and hopefully Monday Night Raw. A few more matches like this for the South African.
